Woman, 77, dies in three-vehicle crash on A701

An elderly woman has been killed in a crash in Dumfries and Galloway.

The accident, involving a lorry, van and a car, happened on the A701 Dumfries to Edinburgh Road, near St Anne's Bridge, at 1850 GMT on Thursday.

Police said the 77-year-old woman was driving a red Ford Fiesta and died as a result of her injuries. Her 78-year-old passenger was also injured.

The 26-year-old van driver received slight injuries while the 44-year-old driver of the lorry was not injured.

Dumfries and Galloway Police has appealed for anyone with information about the crash to contact them.
