Dumfries housing street-by-street renewal planned

A strategy to tackle eyesore private housing in Dumfries will be carried out on a street-by-street basis.

The council has agreed the move as part of efforts to persuade the Scottish government to grant "renewal area" status to the town centre.

The designation would give the authority more power to deal with substandard properties.

Queen Street, Friars Vennel and Brewery Street have been identified as the first priority areas.

Residents will now be consulted and an action plan drawn up.

About £500,000 has been earmarked for improvements.
