Lockerbie Town Hall repairs under way

Work has started to carry out essential repairs to a town hall which had to be closed on safety grounds last year.

The four-week renovation programme at Lockerbie Town Hall will include repairing crumbling stone work, and further weather-proofing the building.

Netting will also be installed around parts of the clock tower and some of the turrets.

It is to prevent materials from becoming loose under storm conditions, and to eliminate perches for birds.

Steeplejacks raised concerns about the structural condition of Lockerbie Town Hall on 23 September last year.

The 131-year-old building was closed to the public although concerns have been voiced about the amount of time taken to make that decision.
