Galashiels farm worker crushed in quad bike accident

A Borders farm worker has been airlifted to hospital in Edinburgh after being crushed by his quad bike.

The 35-year-old man suffered serious back injuries while working at Colmslie Farm at Langshaw, near Galashiels, shortly after 1000 BST.

He had gone down a banking and was left trapped after the machine fell on top of him.

With the emergency services en route, the farmer managed to lift the bike off the injured man using a tractor.

Members of both Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue Service and the Scottish Ambulance Service then arrived on the scene.

The injured man was taken by stretcher to the ambulance which was parked in the field.

However, following the arrival of a helicopter, it was decided to airlift the man 30 miles to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for treatment to his injuries.
