Work to remove the cupola from the top of a town hall has been postponed due to the forecast of high winds.

The operation - part of a wider repairs programme at Lockerbie Town Hall - had been planned for Tuesday.

A large crane was due to help remove the masonry involved but winds of more than 50mph have been forecast.

It has prompted Dumfries and Galloway Council to put off the works until Friday evening when roads in the area will be shut.

The closure will be on Bridge Street, adjacent to the war memorial, and Station Road.

Two-way traffic will be maintained on the High Street throughout the works.

Work started in March to carry out essential repairs to the town hall which had to be closed on safety grounds last year.
