Woman rescued from fire at Dumfries flats

A police and fire investigation has been launched after a teenager was rescued from a blaze in Dumfries in the early hours of the morning.

Dumfries and Galloway Fire and Rescue Service were called to the upper flat on Barrie Avenue at about 0415 BST.

An 18-year-old woman was rescued and taken to hospital suffering from the effects of smoke. Other residents were evacuated as a precaution.

Police said they were treating the fire as suspicious.

Officers have appealed for any witnesses to contact them.
