Scottish Borders speed limit cut consultation begins

Consultation has started on a possible move to cut the speed limit on a route through the Scottish Borders.

It could see a 50mph limit on the A6088 between the A68 at Carter Bar and the A698 on the outskirts of Hawick.

The winding route, which is popular with motorcyclists in the summer months, currently has a limit of 60mph.

If the 50mph maximum was imposed, small "repeater" signs would have to be installed at regular intervals along the route which has caused concern.

Opponents have said they would be unsightly in the remote countryside.
