Search operations have been unable to find a man reported missing in the Scottish Borders since Wednesday.

Border Search and Rescue Unit, Tweed Valley Mountain Rescue Team, search and rescue dogs and a police helicopter have tried to trace Ernest Stephenson.

The 63-year-old, from Galashiels, was last seen in the Balmoral area of the town at about 0200 BST on Wednesday.

Police said it was "out of character" for him not to return home or make contact with his family.

Mr Stephenson is described as white, 5ft 4in tall with a medium build, clean-shaven complexion, short, grey, receding hair, blue eyes and glasses.

He has a scar on the right side of his neck and speaks with a Borders accent.

He was last seen wearing a black fleece jacket, dark sweatshirt, green polo shirt, black jogging bottoms and grey Caterpillar boots.

Anyone who thinks they have seen him should contact Lothian and Borders Police.
