Police and fire services are investigating the cause of a blaze which resulted in extensive damage at a secondary school in Dumfries.

The incident occurred at about 2315 BST on Monday at Maxwelltown High School.

The fire damaged construction work and materials at the school valued at "many thousands of pounds".

Dumfries and Galloway Constabulary said they were keen to trace two people who were seen in the area of the school about the time of the incident.

The first is described as being male, young, wearing a white hooded top, dark trousers and white shoes.

The second may be female, young, wearing a dark jacket, white top, dark trousers and white shoes.
