Police have made a fresh appeal for information in their search for a man missing in the Borders since last week.

Border Search and Rescue Unit, Tweed Valley Mountain Rescue Team, search and rescue dogs and a police helicopter failed to find Ernest Stephenson.

The 63-year-old, from Galashiels, was last seen in the Balmoral area of the town at about 0200 BST on 8 June.

Police said it was "out of character" for him not to return home or make contact with his family.

Mr Stephenson is described as white, 5ft 4in tall with a medium build, clean-shaven complexion, short, grey, receding hair, blue eyes and glasses.

He has a scar on the right side of his neck and speaks with a Borders accent.

He was last seen wearing a black fleece jacket, dark sweatshirt, green polo shirt, black jogging bottoms and grey Caterpillar boots.

Police said he was also known locally as Derek or Stevie.

Anyone who thinks they have seen him should contact Lothian and Borders Police.
