Selkirk Common Riding fall teenager taken to hospital

A 16-year-old rider has been taken by helicopter to Borders General Hospital after falling from her horse during the Selkirk Common Riding.

It happened during the traditional rideout to the Three Brethren hill.

The girl was detained at the hospital near Melrose with suspected neck and back injuries.

The accident was one of a number of falls during the ride, which is one of the main features of the annual Selkirk celebration.

The events culminate in the famous casting of the colours ceremony in the town's Market Place.
