Lockerbie Loop charity cycling death man identified

A 40-year-old Lockerbie man who died during a charity cycle ride in his home town has been identified by police.

Darren Connor collapsed during the Lockerbie Loop event on Sunday.

Dumfries and Galloway Constabulary said a report had been sent to the procurator fiscal into the incident but there were no suspicious circumstances.

The fundraising event for charity Children 1st is in its 10th year and takes place over a 50-mile route through the Annandale area.

Mr Connor had hosted a film club at the Robert Burns centre in Dumfries for a number of years.

Acting film officer Fiona Wilson said they were "extremely saddened" by his death.

"He will be remembered by staff and customers of the film theatre as a complete film enthusiast and an inspiring teacher and mentor," she said.

"Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this sad and difficult time."
