Lothian and Borders Police issue holiday scam warning

Lothian and Borders Police have urged the public to be on their guard against an alleged holiday company scam.

Detectives from Florida have contacted all forces in Britain and others in Europe as they investigate the Your Holiday Getaway company.

They are believed to be targeting elderly members of the public.

The group is suspected of offering fraudulent discount holiday packages, which are paid for using a credit or debit card.

Those who book a holiday then later find that other transactions have been made without their knowledge.

One incident in the Scottish Borders saw a 76-year-old woman from Coldstream contact police after being defrauded of about £1,500 in January this year.

American officers are currently investigating to determine how many people may have been affected.

Anyone who has been dealing with Your Holiday Getaway and has noticed irregularities with their bank account has been asked to come forward.
