Dumfries and Galloway car warranty claim warning issued

Trading standards have warned motorists not to be taken in by false car warranty claims after an investigation involving a garage in Galloway.

The garage advised customers that to maintain their vehicle warranty, servicing must be carried out at a garage approved by the manufacturer.

Dumfries and Galloway trading standards officers said that was not the case.

They said competition rules meant manufacturers could not impose such a condition on vehicle owners.

They advised motorists to shop around to get the best deal and to contact trading standards if they needed advice.
