Meldonfoot classic cars collection could fetch £420,000
A selection of classic cars from the Borders, some more than a century old, is to go under the hammer at auction.
The Meldonfoot collection of 13 vehicles could fetch more than £420,000 at the Bonhams sale at the National Motor Museum in Beaulieu next month.
The auctioneers said the collection had been shaped by an appreciation of the "mechanical genius of Henry Ford".
Among the highlights are a 1904 Cadillac which is expected to sell for between £60,000 and £80,000.
The first car bought for the collection was a 1923 Ford Model T Tourer.
After its purchase a large purpose-built motor house and workshop were built at the owner's Scottish Borders country home to accommodate the vehicles.
A Bonhams spokesperson said: "No expense was spared in equipping the workshops to the highest standard to ensure that additions to the collection would be restored and maintained."
Other vehicles going under the hammer on 10 September include a very early 1910 Ford Model T Tourer and a 1911 Ford Model T Open Runabout that was restored "from the ground up" in the Meldonfoot workshops.
