Edinburgh cyclist killed in Borders road accident named

Police have identified a cyclist who died after coming off his bike in an accident on an unclassified road in a remote part of the Borders.

David Stanners, 35, of Edinburgh, died at the scene of the incident on the route linking the A708 at Cappercleuch to the A701 at Tweedsmuir on Saturday.

He was taking part in an event with Peebles Cycling Club.

No other vehicles were involved in the accident and a report is being prepared for the procurator fiscal.

Lothian and Borders Police have also named a man who was found dead in the River Tweed at the weekend.

The body of Joseph Richardson, 72, of Thame in Oxfordshire, was discovered at Boleside near Galashiels on Saturday.

Police said there were no suspicious circumstances in either incident.
