Police have appealed for information to help trace a Belgian woman last seen leaving her work in the Scottish Borders on Saturday.

Monique Boeckstens, 53, lives in the Bowhill area of Selkirk.

She left her place of work in Melrose on Saturday at about 14:00 and has not been seen since.

She spoke with friends on the phone later that evening but failed to turn up for work on Monday and has not made contact with anyone since.

Police said concern was growing for her safety and officers asked anyone who could assist in locating her to come forward.

She is described as 5ft 7in tall, of medium build, with short, brown, collar-length hair and may have been wearing glasses.

When she was last seen she was wearing a pale, long sleeved, V-neck top, light blue jeans and brown shoes.

A police spokesman said: "Monique's friends have not seen or heard from her since Saturday and raised the alarm when they were unable to make contact with her in the following days.

"Her disappearance and failure to make contact is out of character and we are keen to trace her as soon as possible.

"Anyone who believes they have seen Monique since Saturday is asked to contact police immediately.

"Similarly, Monique is asked to contact her friends or police and let us know she is safe and well."
