Portadown lorry driver banned and jailed

A lorry driver from Northern Ireland has been banned for 10 years and jailed for driving dangerously near Dumfries.

William Lockhart, 67, of Portadown, admitted committing the offence on the A75 in July 2009.

A court heard he drove too close to other vehicles, overtook when it was not safe and went at excessive speed for the class of vehicle.

As well as his driving ban, he was jailed for eight months at Dumfries Sheriff Court.

Lockhart, who had previous convictions, also admitted failing to have a continuous break of nine hours in a 24-hour period.
