Woman rescued from Dumfries fire

A woman has been rescued from a fire which broke out in Dumfries in the early hours of the morning.

A spokesman for Dumfries and Galloway Fire and Rescue Service said the woman was taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation.

The blaze started in an upper floor flat on the town's Barrie Avenue at about 05:00. Neighbours were evacuated for a short time as a precaution.

An investigation is now under way into the cause of the fire.
