Soldier cleared of Hawick pub attacks

A serving soldier has been cleared of two assaults in a Hawick pub after a three-day jury trial.

Scott McQuillin, 35, was charged with assaulting James Fojcik to his severe injury and permanent impairment in the Drumlanrig Bar on 20 June.

The soldier, based at Dreghorn barracks in Edinburgh, was also accused of assaulting Stuart Sharkey.

He lodged a special defence of self-defence at Jedburgh Sheriff Court and was found not guilty on both charges.
