Man charged with David Brown's murder in Newton Stewart

A 56-year-old man will appear in court over the murder of a man in a house in Newton Stewart, Wigtownshire.

David Brown, a local man, died at the property on McGregor Drive, Minnigaff in the early hours of Saturday.

Police were called to a disturbance at about 00:15 and gave Mr Brown first aid, but he died shortly after.

The suspect, who is believed to have known Mr Brown, is due to appear at Stranraer Sheriff Court on Monday on a charge of murder.

Det Insp Mark Hollis said: "Everything points to this being an isolated incident.

"We believe the suspect and victim knew each other and we have now arrested a man in relation to the death."

He added: "A number of witnesses have already been traced and we are grateful for the response we have received from the public however we are keen for the strong support in the local community to continue."
