Paul McCann appears on Newton Stewart murder charge

A Newton Stewart man has made a brief appearance in private at Stranraer Sheriff Court charged with murder.

Paul McCann, 56, made no plea or declaration to the petition which alleged the offence at the weekend.

He appeared before Sheriff Alastair Brown and the case was continued for further examination.

Mr McCann was remanded in custody. His appearance followed the death in the early hours of Saturday morning of David Brown, 40, from Newton Stewart.

Police were called to McGregor Drive in Minnigaff after Mr Brown was found badly injured.

He died a short time later.
