Clovenfords school savings needed in Lauder and Peebles

A £400,000 underspend at a new school in the Borders will be needed to carry out repairs at other sites.

Building work at Clovenfords Primary is said to be progressing well and should be completed by January, at less than its original £6.4m estimate.

An underspend on the earthworks at the site is the main reason for the saving.

However, kitchen ventilation and heating issues at the new Kingsland Primary in Peebles and Lauder Primary will eat up most of the funds.

There is also a problem with the roof at Lauder due to wind damage.

Councillors have been told that negotiations are ongoing with the designers and contractors but it is not clear how much they will pay towards rectifying the problems.
