Dumfries mental health centre nears completion

Members of the public are being offered the chance to tour a £27m mental health facility due to open soon in Dumfries.

Work started on the project near the Crichton Hospital in April last year.

Patient services manager Ian McIntyre said the Midpark Hospital had "modern, fit for purpose mental healthcare facilities for the 21st century".

However, he said the building also incorporated "innovative ideas and elements" relating to the 19th Century Crichton Royal Hospital.

Tours of the building are taking place next month before the site becomes fully operational.

Mr McIntyre said: "We anticipate patients and staff moving in to their new surroundings towards the end of November and therefore felt that it would be appropriate to offer this opportunity to the public before the move takes place."
