Hawick man Derek Kinghorn appears on flat murder charge

A 44-year-old Hawick man has appeared in private at Jedburgh Sheriff Court charged with murder.

Derek Kinghorn is accused of repeatedly stabbing Brian Mair on the body with a knife or similar instrument.

The incident is alleged to have happened at Mr Kinghorn's flat in Howegate, Hawick, in the Scottish Borders, on Tuesday night.

He made no plea or declaration during a brief appearance and the case was continued for further examination.

He was remanded in custody by Sheriff Donald Corke.
