Van driver hurt in A74(M) crash

A man has been airlifted to hospital with serious leg injuries after a motorway crash in Dumfries and Galloway.

A police investigation is under way and the southbound carriageway of the A74(M) was shut but has since reopened.

The crash, involving a van and a lorry, happened shortly before 08:00 just north of Kirkpatrick Fleming.

The 49-year-old van driver, from Birmingham, had to be cut free from the wreckage by firefighters.

He was then airlifted by helicopter to Glasgow's Southern General Hospital.

Police have appealed for witnesses to the collision to come forward.
