Glentrool school targets new role

A school which was shut when its roll was forecast to be just one pupil has been taken over by the local community.

Glentrool Primary in Dumfries and Galloway was shut in June last year.

A management agreement for the site has now been signed between the local authority and the Glentrool and Bargrennan Community Trust.

It plans to develop the site as a venue for events and activities, taking advantage of its proximity to the UK's first Dark Sky Park.

Meta Maltman, who chairs the trust, said: "Signing the management agreement is an important step forward in our plans to develop the school building for the benefit of our community.

"This is a challenging project, but one that we hope will create new social and recreational opportunities for Glentrool and Bargrennan residents."
