Dundee man in critical condition after Beattock crash

A Dundee man is in a critical condition in hospital after an accident on the A74(M) motorway in southern Scotland.

The 20-year-old was taken to the Western General Hospital in Edinburgh after the car he was driving crashed near Beattock.

He suffered life-threatening injuries in the incident shortly before 04:00.

His passenger, a 19-year-old man from Strathaven in South Lanarkshire, escaped with cuts and bruises. No other vehicles were involved.

Police said the motorway was closed for six hours but reopened at about 10:30.
