Biker dies after crash on A701 near Moffat

A motorcyclist has died following a crash on the outskirts of Moffat.

Robert Cornthwaite, 35, from Beattock, suffered fatal injuries in the smash on the A701 on the approach to the south side of the town.

Dumfries and Galloway Police said it happened about 14:00 on Sunday. No other vehicle was involved.

The road was closed for several hours while police investigators examined the scene. Officers have appealed for witnesses to come forward.
