Three rescued from car in Dumfries flood waters

Three people have been rescued from a car which was stuck in rising flood waters in Dumfries.

The incident happened at 19:45 on Tuesday in the town's Jocks Loaning.

Emergency services were called to the scene by the driver of the vehicle saying they were trapped by waters from the River Nith and River Cairn.

Firefighters wearing specialist dry suits and using water rescue equipment were able to take all three people to safety.

Dumfries and Galloway Fire and Rescue Service asked the public to remember to plan journeys carefully during bad weather.

A spokesman said: "Often flood waters can rise rapidly with no prior warning taking occupants of vehicles by surprise.

"Consideration should also be given to alternative routes where possible."
