A museum in the Borders is to close for more than three months to carry out an audit and review of its collection.

Hawick Museum is normally open all year round but will be shut from 24 December until 31 March.

Curator Shona Sinclair said it would allow them to meet standards necessary for collection care.

She said the closure was taking place at the quietest time of the year and she hoped that any public inconvenience could be minimised.

Borders Textile Towerhouse, which explores the heritage and history of the Borders textile industry, and is also in Hawick, will remain open to the public as normal during the time Hawick Museum is shut.
