Dumfries and Galloway health spending cut impact pledge

The head of NHS Dumfries and Galloway has insisted that £7.5m worth of efficiency savings can be delivered without cuts to services.

Chief executive John Burns was speaking following the publication of the latest set of accounts for the health board.

The figures show that savings targets are on course to be met and that spending will come in under budget.

Mr Burns said a lot of effort had gone into ensuring that provision and quality of care were not sacrificed.

"What we are seeing in terms of the financial performance of the board is really down to all of the hard work that everyone has put into the efficiency programme," he said.

However, he said that at the same time they had been "maintaining quality of service" and continuing to make improvements.
