Dumfries and Galloway schools shut by severe weather

A number of schools have been closed in Dumfries and Galloway as icy conditions hit the south west of Scotland.

A total of three sites had been confirmed as shut by 09:00 - all of them in the Annandale and Eskdale area.

Pupils at Applegarth Primary, Hoddom Primary and Hutton Primary were sent home for the day with many routes in the region described by police as "treacherous".

All the schools were scheduled to reopen on Tuesday.
