Man charged after historic Hawick horse statue damaged

A 28-year-old man has been charged after vandalism to the historic horse monument in the centre of Hawick.

The statue, which commemorates the Battle of Hornshole in 1514, was damaged in November last year.

Lothian and Borders Police confirmed a local man had been charged and a report would be sent to the procurator fiscal.

Insp Paula Clark thanked the people of Hawick and the media for their help with what she said had "not been an easy enquiry".
