Icy Dumfries and Galloway roads see spate of crashes

Police have been dealing with a spate of crashes on a motorway and other minor routes throughout Dumfries and Galloway in icy conditions.

Two separate accidents were reported on the stretch of the A74(M) within the region.

One lane was blocked on the southbound section at Annandale Services with two northbound lanes closed near Moffat.

Dumfries and Galloway Constabulary urged motorists to take extra care in conditions described as "very slippy".

Further accidents have also been reported to police near Annan and Terregles.

The cold weather has had an impact on education in the region as well with Kirkpatrick Fleming Primary shut due to a heating failure.
