Dumfries and Galloway schools shut in cold conditions

Two schools in south west Scotland have been shut due to heating failures as colder conditions swept across the region.

Dumfries and Galloway Council confirmed pupils had been sent home from the primaries in Leswalt and Twynholm.

Temperatures have struggled to get much above 0C for much of the day in many areas.

It was hoped that both schools would be able to reopen as normal on Tuesday after repair work was carried out.
