Dumfries and Galloway bus service subsidies considered

Councillors are being asked to consider providing extra funding to support Dumfries and Galloway bus services.

Operating contracts for many routes have just been retendered and transport partnership SWESTRANS hopes to keep within its existing £3.8m budget.

However, two contracts are expected to require additional subsidies.

Dumfries and Galloway Council is being asked to increase its funding to SWESTRANS in order to cover the extra costs involved.

The exact amount involved will be disclosed to councillors when they meet to debate the move.

The authority will also be asked to consider providing a further £38,500 to finance a number of additional or enhanced services identified during a public consultation carried out late last year.
