Dumfries retail development plans on show

Plans for a multi-million pound retail and office development on the outskirts of Dumfries are going on display.

Macdonald Estates said the project would include a supermarket and petrol station at the site at Brasswell Park on the Annan Road.

The company said it wanted to give the public an opportunity to comment on its proposals for the land.

The plans will be on display at Georgetown community centre, on Wednesday and Thursday afternoon.

Joe Noble, strategic development director at Macdonald Estates, said he believed the scheme could improve the "quality and choice" of food shopping in the town.

"The site is easily accessible which makes it an ideal location for a new supermarket thus improving the distribution and access to new retail facilities; particularly to residents west of Dumfries," he said.

"The proposal seeks to complement existing retail provision, rather than compete with it, in particular town centre retailers.

"In addition, the proposed development will provide employment opportunities for the local population and enhance Dumfries's role as a regional hub."
