A man has been arrested after police discovered a second cannabis factory near Langholm in the space of a week.

Drugs with a street value of about £100,000 were found at a house in the Bentpath area on Saturday.

It followed the discovery of a similar-sized haul at a property in nearby Westerkirk a week earlier.

A 43-year-old man has been arrested following the Bentpath discovery and bailed to appear at Dumfries Sheriff Court.

Det Insp Gary Coupland said: "Once again a large scale cannabis cultivation set-up has been unearthed in a very rural area of Dumfries and Galloway because of information given to us by the public.

"As a result of this information and the resulting seizure of the cannabis plants these drugs will no longer get onto the streets."

He urged the public to keep contacting the police with any information they might have.
