Man dies after head-on crash in Borders

A 24-year-old man has died after a head-on crash between two cars on a road in the Borders on Wednesday evening.

The accident happened on the A7 near Galashiels at about 17:20.

The man, named locally as Graham Milroy, had to be cut free from his Citroen Saxo by firefighters.

He was taken to Borders General Hospital, but later died. The driver of the other car, a Skoda Octavia, was treated for minor injuries.

The A7 was closed for more than five hours to allow a crash investigation to be carried out.

Lothian and Borders Police have appealed for any witnesses to contact them and in particular they are keen to speak to three occupants of a works vehicle, possibly a flatbed van, who stopped at the scene to give assistance and contacted the emergency services.
