Duns Knoll Hospital illness investigated

Investigations are being carried out into an illness which has stopped admissions at a community hospital in the Scottish Borders.

Eleven patients and two staff at the single-ward Knoll Community Hospital in Duns have been affected.

NHS Borders said they were suffering from a gastrointestinal complaint but none were giving cause for concern.

It added that control measures were being put in place until the source of the infection was established.

Sheena Wright, director of nursing and midwifery for NHS Borders, said: "The healthcare of our patients and staff is our main concern.

"Staff are working with the infection control team to put in control measures while the cause of the infection is determined.

"Visitors are asked to comply with any instructions they are given by staff and, in particular, they should not go to the hospital or any other healthcare facility if they or other members of their family have had symptoms of diarrhoea or vomiting within the past 48 hours."
