Crumbling speed bump action call in Dumfries and Galloway

A call is being made for immediate action to either repair or remove crumbling speed bumps from housing estates across Dumfries and Galloway.

Councillor Jeff Leaver claims that many are in such poor condition that they could cause damage to vehicles and pose a danger.

The local authority will consider the future of speed bumps next month.

The issue is reflected in a report on establishing 20mph zones in residential areas.

However, Mr Leaver said he believed the situation needed to be tackled with greater urgency.

He said the roads were "falling apart" in some places.

"It is just not acceptable that we don't do anything while we continue this review," he said.

"Cars are being damaged and it is positively dangerous in parts as people swerve to avoid these big potholes."
