Dumfries and Galloway seniors forum replacement sought

An attempt is being made to set up a new body to represent older people in Dumfries and Galloway after the demise of the previous organisation.

The Seniors Forum was wound up last month amid claims of a funding shortage and a lack of local authority support.

Options for creating another group to act as a voice for over 50s are being considered at a meeting in Dumfries.

The meeting is being hosted by the charity, Age Scotland, which has urged people to attend.

Nancy Howat, a former organiser of the Seniors Forum, said any new organisation would work to ensure that it was not affected by the financial difficulties which hit its predecessor.
