HSBC unveils Dumfries branch plan

Banking firm HSBC has said it hopes to have a new branch open in Dumfries by the summer, creating about 14 new jobs.

It said it was spending a total of £1.2m on the overhaul of the former Bonmarche store on the High Street.

It is part of the company's expansion plans in Scotland, which have seen new branches completed in Stirling and Falkirk. Sites in Aberdeen and Dundee are also due to open this year.

A spokesman said it wanted a site in the "heart of the town" in Dumfries.
