Prison death inquiry planned for child killer James Reid

A fatal accident inquiry is to be held into the death of a child killer in a Dumfries jail.

James Reid, who was serving life for the murder a four-year-old boy in Glasgow in 1997, died in November.

The killing of James Ward was described at the time by the judge who sentenced Reid, Lord Kirkwood, as "brutal and savage".

The 73-year-old's death will be the subject of a hearing at Dumfries Sheriff Court on 23 March.
