Southerness golf course body find made by police

Police have called off the search for a missing Ayrshire man following the discovery of a body near a south of Scotland golf course.

James Neil, 34, of Auchinleck, had been visiting family near Southerness.

He was last seen in the area at about 09:00 on Monday and an appeal was made to try to trace him.

Dumfries and Galloway Constabulary confirmed that a body had been found near Southerness golf course on Monday evening and ceased their search.

A spokesman said there appeared to be no suspicious circumstances and the procurator fiscal has been informed of the death.

Formal identification and a post-mortem examination are being arranged.
