Dumfries High School launches online payment scheme

A new online payment system for pupils is being launched at a Dumfries and Galloway secondary school.

The scheme at Dumfries High School allows parents to deposit money online to pay for a variety of items such as school meals and trips.

Pupils can then use Young Scot cards to make payments within the school.

Dumfries High is the first secondary in the region to introduce the web-based service.

The system is said to offer a range of benefits including reducing the need for pupils to carry money.

Cash paid in online will have to be spent in school which it is claimed will encourage students - particularly younger pupils - to stay on site at lunchtimes.

The new system will also provide an online record of payments made for school trips.
