Gretna house fire victim identified

Police have identified an 86-year-old woman who died following a house fire in Dumfries and Galloway.

The blaze broke out at the home of Martha Carruthers on Union Road in Gretna late on Thursday evening.

She was rescued and taken to Cumberland Hospital in Carlisle but was pronounced dead a short time later.

Dumfries and Galloway Constabulary and fire officers were carrying out an investigation to try to establish the cause of the blaze.
