Passing fire crew aids exercise collapse woman in Galashiels

A woman who collapsed during an exercise class in the Borders was revived using an emergency defibrillator after a crew of passing firefighters was flagged down.

The 42-year-old became ill during a class at Volunteer Hall in Galashiels at about 18:30 on Wednesday.

An accident and emergency nurse, who was at the premises, administered CPR.

A passing fire engine was alerted and the crew used a defibrillator and gave the woman oxygen.

She was taken to Borders General Hospital.

A spokeswoman for Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue Service said the woman had been "sitting up in bed", and was believed to be recovering well.
