Hawick PPI scam sparks police warning

Police have issued a warning to the public after an elderly woman in the Borders was the victim of a Payment Protection Insurance scam.

The victim, from the Hawick area, was contacted by a bogus phone caller claiming to represent a company dealing with such claims.

She was duped out of more than £2,000.

Police asked the public to be "particularly vigilant" when dealing with calls from anyone claiming to represent such an agency.

They have also reminded people never to give out their bank details over the phone in such circumstances.
